[Brandon] Phase 2

For the KCP&L rebranding, I'm proposing 3 directions, but standing behind my third and final option. These focus on my current 3 brand attributes: Neighborly, Caring, and Progressive. The previous identity is far too corporate and ambiguous, so customers are somewhat alienated with the company, and aren't aware of KCP&L's contributions to the community. So for this reason, I'm also striving to play up their activity and volunteer efforts, and really improve that customer experience on a local level.

The first direction focuses on a circular seal-like form. The concept was to establish credibility, and the simple pattern with the power poles can represent connectivity, community, and unity. The looped power lines forming the circle can also reflect renewable energy. The blue and dark grays resemble sky and steel, and do seem quite friendly.

The second direction focused on power and strength of the lineman's work. It's a dangerous job, and it takes a strong and steady workforce to handle the high voltage and intense heights. I also incorporated shaking hands into the lightning bolt imagery, to show a mutual cooperation or service to the community. It's vibrant green is by far the most electric and intense color and works well over black and white photographic imagery.

The final direction uses a diverse family of birds. Together, in a line, birds can represent power line structure and a community. It helps establish a sense of comfort and friendliness, not simply with the playful birds, but with the color choice as well. Each bird could stand in for a different KCP&L customer, and it makes for an interesting pattern. This direction is the chosen one from my presentation to move forward with.

Below is my presentation for Monday, October 3rd's critique.
